It’s come to our attention that the master bike and pedestrian plan for the City of Arlington is under scrutiny and they have a favor to ask.
After a strong initial turnout for the early workshops and what appeared to be full support from the city council, BFA assumed that the well-researched plan (by the Greenways Consultants – backstory here) for adding much needed infrastructure for cycling and pedestrians was a slam dunk.
It appears otherwise.
A small, vocal group of residents and business owners in central Arlington and around Davis and Abram streets identifying themselves as ”Save Our Streets Arlington” have been hard at work spreading disinformation about the plan and making lots of noise at city hall pressuring them to scrap the plan. Apparently some city leaders are biting on it, ostensibly because they think the group is larger than what it is.

fingers crossed. they have an uphill battle in a city that has the distinction of being the largest city in the nation without public transportation, which they’ve rejected at least three times.
it’s an odd stance for a city with a major state university and an economy tied so closely to entertainment and tourism.
One of Arlington’s most powerful citizens (and former long-time mayor) also happens to own a large chain of car dealerships down there…
Is there a correlation?
