Suggestion Box
I’ve been getting quite a few good ideas on Facebook and through email (bikefriendlyrichardson at gmail dot com) about things we can do for bicycling and bicyclist in Richardson. There are also a few great links that were shared as well.
It’s my goal to get some of those things posted over here to share with everybody – so keep them coming.
I am hoping someone has suggested increasing the sensitivity of the traffic signals to detect bicycles. It nothing to wait for several minutes the signals to change at certain intersections. I have even seen some of them that do not respond to the line of cars stacked up at them. Let alone bicycle.
It’s great that you mention this. Sean Cortez-Mathis over on Facebook mentioned it as well. Perhaps, this will be the first suggestion that I write up.

We need a whole lot more bike lids at our DART stations. I ride the train most days but there isn’t space on them for my bike and I don’t need it once I’m downtown. I’m sure there are others that would like to do the same thing but don’t want to risk the inevitable stolen/vandalized bike.
We’ve got four stations serving over 100,000 residents with a grand total of four bike lids. Ludicrous! Who do we bother at DART about this? If they won’t do it, will they let the city do it for them? We know who to bother there.
Here is a quote from a Tulsa resident regarding Richardson hybrid bike lanes: I visited Santa Fe a couple of years ago and they have extensive bike lanes in the city. It was difficult for me to remember to look before making a right turn to be sure no one was in the bike lane. My parents live in Richardson TX and they have hybrid bike lanes throughout the city — well-marked signage seems to be an important part of the message. I prefer the hybrid lanes when driving, because it makes me more aware of cyclists on the road.
Yet I was unable to find conversation regarding this equality vehicle lane access bike facility application on this page. Where can I find directive and institutional support for hybrid bike lanes in Richardson, Texas?
Gary,
Thanks for contacting us. When talking about ‘hybrid bike lanes” were you referring to bike lanes that cars can occasionally enter to make right turns? If so, you can go here for the only information that the city has published on the lanes:

I hope this helps.
