Introducing Bike Friendly North Shore – Auckland, New Zealand

Posted in Bike Friendly by dickdavid on February 17, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, Antoine, a contact of mine on flickr shot me a message expressing interest in the Bike Friendly movement that’s happening here in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He shared similar interests and wanted to start something similar in his town – Auckland, New Zealand. Getting permission from the BFOC folks to use their logo treatment, it looks like he followed through with Bike Friendly North Shore.

From their blog: “We’re not about racing (though we love that too), instead our focus is on using bikes for everyday transport like getting to work, visiting friends, shopping or just hanging out and exploring the neighbourhood.” (more)

This is pretty awesome news. Not only do other communities have a common goal, but also, our local efforts are getting some national recognition. Slowly but surely, the word is spreading.

Thanks guys. I’m not even sure if we have any bike culture here on the North Shore but you’ve got to start somewhere.
