Alliance For Biking And Walking – 2010 Benchmark Report

Posted in Uncategorized by dickdavid on March 4, 2010

I just picked this up from the BikeTexas site. Looks like it will be interesting information – once I get a moment to sit down and read it.

From a quick flip through, looks like Dallas and Texas are included, but Richardson isn’t. As you may have guessed, it appears as if north Texas didn’t rate so well.

That would be scandalous if they indeed left Richardson out of this report and suggests sloppy scholarship on their part. Richardson is the only city in Dallas County that is treating their trail and route system as a legitimate alternative transportation system, heck you don’t need me to tell you how progressive the city has been in terms of building a cycling infrastructure and they only started in 2002 or so. Everywhere you turn in Richardson you’ll find a bike route, trail, trail under construction or one being planned. And you guys have the only bike lanes in the entire county.

I’ll be reading this report when I get time as well.

Ok, on closer examination it appears they only included the 50 cities with the highest population, Richardson’s 100,000 population is what kept them from being considered in the report.

    No scandal here πŸ™‚
