People For Bikes
Our friends over at pedallas posted about a cool little site called People For Bikes. They’re dedicated to channeling that passion to improve the future of bicycling. They’re also trying to gather a million names of support, to speak with one, powerful voice—to make bicycling safer, more convenient and appealing for everyone.
Sounds like a good cause, and there has got to be a million cyclists out there. Be counted – head on over there and sign their pledge.
I’m totally behind the goals and sentiment of all this. So I dont know why people for bikes . org annoys me. Well I do kind of. Just not sure why so much. It’s industry backed, a project of some bicycle manufacturers association. Run by a slick PR firm. Asking for donations though Trek could probably fund it by itself. 501(3)(c) Foundation’s stated mission – actually very benevolent- bikes for kids- sort of altered to bring this under it’s wing. It’s just so NOT grass-roots (like Bike Friendly… ‘s ARE) – that it creeps me out.
I see what your saying. However, grassroots or not, slick PR effort or not, we all have the same goals.
It’s just nice to see groups that are well organized and can pull together a stronger voice for advocacy.
