Although we are typically a voice for non-sport cycling in Richardson, we do love all forms of bike riding.
As with casual cycling and commuting, another type of riding we don’t see much of in town is mountain or off-road biking. Of course, the main reason for that is we don’t have any official off-road cycling trails.
You’d need to head over to Rowlett Creek Preserve in Garland, Erwin Park in McKinney, Arbor Hills in Plano or Harry Moss Park in Dallas for anything close. Unfortunately, because Richardson is mostly built-out or privately owned property, bringing an off-road bike park into town will be quite a challenge – but not impossible.
If you are interested in bringing some safe, legal and fun off-road trails to Richardson, head over to DORBA and get involved. They are a fantastic group of cyclists with a great passion for riding. There are already a few threads discussing Richardson off-road trails. Go here, here and here to read all about it and join the discussion.
Please remember that Bike Friendly Richardson does not condone trespassing or any other illegal activity. We advocate that cyclists get involved with city officials and property owners to find safe and legal solutions for all riders.
