Arlington Needs Your Help

Posted in Advocacy, Bike Friendly by dickdavid on December 10, 2010

It’s come to our attention that the master bike and pedestrian plan for the City of Arlington is under scrutiny and they have a favor to ask.

After a strong initial turnout for the early workshops and what appeared to be full support from the city council, BFA assumed that the well-researched plan (by the Greenways Consultants – backstory here) for adding much needed infrastructure for cycling and pedestrians was a slam dunk.

It appears otherwise.

A small, vocal group of residents and business owners in central Arlington and around Davis and Abram streets identifying themselves as “Save Our Streets Arlington” have been hard at work spreading disinformation about the plan and making lots of noise at city hall pressuring them to scrap the plan. Apparently some city leaders are biting on it, ostensibly because they think the group is larger than what it is.

Bike Friendly Arlington would like you to sign their petition. Every signature counts.

Two more Bike Friendly groups have sprouted up. When I asked to start Bike Friendly Richardson, my hope was that more north Texas cities would join up as well. I just didn’t realize that it would happen so fast. Great news!!

Please welcome Bike Friendly Arlington and Bike Friendly Lakewood.
