It’s Back! Friday, May 20, 2016 is The League of American Cyclists‘ National Bike To Work Day. IF there is ever a day to ride to work, make it this day. Think about the positive statement we’ll be making as cyclists, safely using an alternate form of transportation.

Based on our great success in Richardson 4 years ago (which grew to 5 stations around Dallas 3 years ago, and continues to grow every year) BikeDFWDART and local bike groups, like Bike Friendly Richardson, have partnered up to host another 8 Bike Commuter Energizer Stations around the Dallas/Fort Worth area – including the original stop at Arapaho Station.

Richardson Energizer Station info:

LOCATION: RICHARDSON – DART Arapaho Station
DATE: Friday, May 20, 2016

Bike To Work Day Energizer Stations 2015 – Recap and Pics

Earlier last month was the Bike League’s National Bike To Work Day. For the fourth year, Bike Friendly Richardson, worked with BikeDFW  and DART to set up a bike commuter Energizer Station at DART‘s Arapaho rail station in Richardson.

Because interest in these stations continues to grow, BikeDFW and DART were able to set up another 9 stations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including Plano, Garland, Irving, Addison, Carrollton, Oak Cliff, and two locations in Downtown Dallas. Unfortunately, May was a really wet month, with record rainfall in our area. Bike To Work Day, was no exception. Reports came back that those stations had less success greeting bicycle commuters than previous years.

The Richardson station was still pretty successful. We had a dozen bike commuters stop by our Energizer Station, where we provided them with snacks and breakfast tacos. We also handed out lots of swag donated by DART and NCTCOG as well as energy bars provided KINDRichardson Bike Mart was out to do bicycle safety checks.

Although it was a lighter turnout than we had hoped, it’s still apparent that folks around the Dallas area are starting to look at bicycle commuting as an viable form of alternate transportation – which most feel is hard to do in a city built for cars. Because of this, we will continue to host these stations on Bike To Work Day – rain or shine.

Here are a few pics from the Richardson event:

Richardson Bike To Work Day Station – Recap And Pics

Last Friday was the Bike League’s National Bike To Work Day. For the third year, Bike Friendly Richardson, worked with BikeDFWDART and NCTCOG to set up a bike commuter Energizer Station at Arapaho rail station in Richardson. Because interest in these stations continues to grow, BikeDFW and DART were able to set up 9 stations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Reports are coming back that those stations had great success greeting the many bicycle commuters who came through. This indicates to me that folks around the Dallas area are starting to look at bicycle commuting as an viable form of alternate transportation – which most feel is hard to do in a city built for cars.

The Richardson station was quite successful. We had 25 bike commuters stop by our Energizer Station, where we provided them with snacks and breakfast tacos. We also handed out lots of swag donated by DART and NCTCOG as well as energy bars provided by Clif Bar and KIND. Richardson Bike Mart was out to do bicycle safety checks.

We even had a news camera man from Channel 11 stop by and interview us, but we never made the news cast that day. Fortunately, other stops in Dallas got some coverage:

– The local Fox News station
KERA, our local public radio station.

Here are some pics from this year’s Bike To Work Day Energizer Station in Richardson:

BFR Ride And Seek Photo Scavenger Hunt Raffle WINNERS

Posted in BFR Misc, Bicycle Events by dickdavid on November 4, 2013

Before you scroll to the bottom of this post to see if you won, we would like to thank each and every one of the participants for joining our first Ride and Seek Photo Scavenger Hunt. Because of you, we think this has been one of our most successful events, yet. We hope to continue having these types of events in the future.

We’d also like to thank our sponsors for putting up some great prizes for our event: Richardson Bike Mart, Alamo Drafthouse and DART.

Throughout the month of October, there were over 35 participants, including 12 who completed the entire set. There were over 410 amazing shots taken and who knows how many miles ridden. What amazed us the most, were all of people who did the challenge just so that they can explore Richardson.

As discussed in the rules for the scavenger hunt, each image submission counted as a entry and earned a raffle ticket. If you completed the assigned set of 14, you would earn double points. Each additional image (and there were some great ones), earned a bonus ticket. The more submissions you made, increased your odds of winning.

The range of tickets earned went from 1, all the way up to 53 per person, and the odds of winning were 1 in 600 (approximately). Each ticket drawn was randomly paired with a prize. Scroll down to see the results.

From the folks at local bike store, Richardson Bike Mart:

The weather’s getting colder, but here’s a fun way to stay warm and ride your bike!

Ride your bike (don’t forget your helmet!) to, or have a rest stop at any place that sells hot beverages (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, apple cider, etc.). Your coffee stop can be in traditional brick and mortar form, at a farmer’s market, a gas station, or a mobile vendor!

While enjoying your beverage, take a photo! Have fun with it! Be sure you show your hot beverage with yourself/your bicycle/your helmet. Label the photo with where you went and what you drank. Each photo you submit (one stop per day) will enter you in a drawing for prizes ($100 gift card to RBM, free bicycle tune-up, and others)!

How to enter your photo:
– post it on the Richardson Bike Mart Facebook timeline
– Instagram #RBMcoffee2013
– Twitter #RBMcoffee2013
– email your photo with “coffee crawl” in the subject to tfrancesconi@bikemart.com

**If you submit with Instagram or Twitter, please email your contact info to match up with your screen name!**

Some coffee/hot beverage destination ideas:
Pearl Cup Coffee (Richardson and Dallas locations),
Sweet Firefly (they’re not just homemade ice cream!),
Alamo Drafthouse Dallas / Fort Worth (see a movie too!),
Wound Up! Cafe,
Einstein Bagels,
Dunkin’ Donuts or any other doughnut shop,
Nasher Sculpture Center,
and, of course, Starbucks!
