Updates To The Central Expressway and Renner Road Underpasses

Posted in Bike Trails and Routes, City Stuff by dickdavid on May 9, 2011

A bunch has happened since our last report on the almost completion of the first Central Expressway underpass , just south of Renner Road.

It now appears that the second Central underpass, just north of Renner Road, has been poured as well. That portion of the Richardson trail – from Alma Road (at the PGB Tollway), running under Central Expressway, then around to Renner Road – is complete.

The underpass at Renner Road – connecting this new trail to the existing Spring Creek Trail – is all that is left. As of a few weeks ago, it still looked like there was plenty of work that needed to be done. This weekend, we discovered that quite a bit of progress has happened and that underpass is well on it’s way towards completion.

It isn’t finished yet, but the underpass just south of Renner Road is now paved. Hopefully, it will be open soon.

Trail Under Central – Serious Progress

Posted in Bike Change, Bike Trails and Routes, City Stuff by dickdavid on April 17, 2011

Forms down

Looks like the forms are up on the southern underpass (just south of Renner Road). It usually doesn’t take them long to pour the slab once it’s at this point. That doesn’t mean the trail will be open, yet. There is a bunch of finishing work that needs to be done before it will be open for riders. We’ll keep you posted.

Forms under Central

Not Much Longer

I didn’t get a chance to check the northern underpass (just north of Renner Road) – but until the Renner Road underpass is complete, that section is far from useful.

Trail Under Central Progress – More Gabion Walls

Gabion Wall Construction

Still some work left to do

Not much to report today. With all of the bad rain and ice/snow storms this winter, I’m quite impressed with the amount of progress that has been made. That being said, we’re still a long way before completion. Hopefully, we’ll have a nice passage by the end of spring or early summer.

For now, check out these picks of the gabion wall progress.

More Trail Progress – Retaining Walls Under US75

Posted in Bike Trails and Routes, City Stuff by dickdavid on December 5, 2010

Retaining Wall Progress

We figured that this would probably be the hardest part of the trail construction – building under the highway and next to a creek – and understandably the slowest. Just when we were thinking that the actual construction under Central Expressway (US75) has slowed down to a halt, we discovered that some major progress has been made. As seen with other Richardson creek-side construction, the stone and wire retaining walls (assumably to prevent erosion) are coming in nicely.

Once it’s finished, it will be well worth the wait.
