The highly anticipated  Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Richardson is finally open for business. Not only has this become one of the hottest destinations in town, it also has an amazing lineup of bike racks that are in the shape of film reels.

Speaking of cool bike parking, the new Whole Foods in Addison has some very impressive bike racks that are in the shape of bicycles. It almost makes up for them leaving Richardson.

Just My Size Bike Rack

I’m glad that both of these businesses care enough about cyclists, and got really creative with their bike parking. This shows that there are some forward-thinking business owners that care about supporting alternate transportation, the local bike culture and a strong community.

I hope that bike parking, like this, continues to be an ongoing trend with new construction around town.

KaBike to Kaboomtown Ride (Addison’s fireworks show) – July 3, 2013

Posted in Bicycle Events by dickdavid on June 28, 2013

We won’t be hosting a Red, White and Bike ride this year. Instead, we suggest that ride with our friends, Richardson Urban Bicycle Clubwho are hosting another one of their rides to Kaboomtown in Addison. It’s called the KaBike to Kaboomtown Ride. Here are the details to their event:

Date: July 3, 2013
Time: 5:45pm
Where: Torchy’s Tacos (at Preston & Alexis)
Description (from their Facebook event page):
We hope you’ll come out en force to join us for our annual Ride-White-and-Blue short and leisurely ride to Addison’s fabulous Kaboom Town! holiday fireworks event! 5 miles round trip.

We gather the clans at 5:45ish at Torchy’s Tacos at Preston & Alexis. Happy Hour is 4-7pm, which means $1 off some beers, and $4 house and swirl margaritas.

Around 7:00pm, as a group we will ride out north to Arapaho and west to the Frost Bank parking garage at 5002 Arapaho Road, up to the top of the garage and then down 2 levels to where our friends will have a great spot ready for us! (Exact garage level will be chosen the day of the event, but this is where they usually set up – be flexible!)

We will then hang out and enjoy Addison’s Kaboomtown (One of the top 5 July 4th displays according to Travel Channel!) til the flyby and the fireworks conclude and the traffic maybe thins a bit, and around 10:15pm we will ride back to the cars, to disperse into the warm Summer night!

• A bike with lots of lights, ready to ride, plus any safety gear such as a helmet,
• Festive but comfortable holiday attire, or something red, white, and blue,
• Water enough for a few hours,
• Your beverages of choice, snacks, & a bag to carry home your trash,
• Cash to contribute for food and drink (suggested $5-10 donation to our hosts for food, drink and hosting us!), and
• A cheery, freedom-loving attitude!!

• To invite others!
• You can also stay for the Addison Kaboom Town! After Party featuring Emerald City on the Dos Equis Stage at 10:00 pm, but please advise us so we can keep an accurate count and not leave anyone behind accidentally!

Ride To Kaboomtown With The Richardson Urban Bicycle Club

Posted in Bicycle Events by dickdavid on July 2, 2010

Since the response was low for a July 4th ride to the Richardson fireworks display at Breckinridge Park, we decided to join up with the Richardson Urban Bicycle Club and their ride to Kaboomtown in Addison.

DATE: Saturday, July 3
TIME: meet 6:30, ride 7:30
PLACE: 12 Burgers & Tacos (in the old Fish on Fire building)

INFO from their Facebook event page:
This is the ride of the year! Get your red, white & blue on and ride with us from Preston & Belt Line to Arapaho & the Tollway where we’ll meet up with a bunch of friends in a parking garage. They will be partying, grilling and having a good old time, so we’ll double the fun by joining them. AND we’ll have a great vantage point for Addison’s annual fireworks display!

Our meeting point is 12 Burgers & Tacos in the old Fish on Fire building (where we met last year). The restaurant is BYOB, as is the parking garage. We plan to meet & eat at 6:30, ride out around 7:30, reach the garage by 8:30 and watch fireworks around 9:30. Then we’ll ride past all the cars stuck trying to exit the garage and get back to 12 Burgers by 11ish.

Since we know you’re itchin’ to get dressed up — costumes and festive red, white & blue attire of all kinds are encouraged. More is more!

Come celebrate your freedom & pursue happiness with us this Saturday night! Pedal on!

This just in from Addison!!!

Weather Update: July 2nd, 4:50pm
Texas weather is always unpredictable. While officials from the Town of Addison continue to carefully monitor the weather situation, we have created the following contingency plan for the Kaboom Town fireworks:

• If rain appears to be intermittent, we will work to complete the Kaboom Town fireworks as close to the scheduled time as possible. However, intervening rain might require a mild change of schedule.

• If rain persists, or if thunderstorms appear, we may need to reschedule the Kaboom Town fireworks for a date yet to be determined. We will alert you as soon as a rescheduled date has been set.

Check back here for additional updates.

So, the plan is to keep the ride, meet when and where we planned. Then, if we think it looks a little dodgy, we can drive to the parking lot NE of Tollway & Arapaho and walk or ride from there. We can reassess when we have a radar map and the sky to look at.
